Enhanced Core Reading Instruction™ (ECRI)

Enhances the Best Practices Already Happening

What: ECRI is instructional routines and daily Tier I & Tier II lessons that increase the effectiveness of a school’s existing K-2 core reading program.

Why: No curriculum is perfect. ECRI increases the explicitness and intensity of the instruction of a school’s existing core reading program to close student achievement gaps and support teacher delivery of instruction.

How: ECRI increases alignment between Tier I & Tier II by:

  • Using the same scope and sequence of core curriculum.
  • Using the same routines and language for introducing and practicing skills.
  • Preteaching of content in Tier II to promote students’ access to Tier I.

ECRI has been vetted as a proven early literacy program by the What Works Clearinghouse, Evidence for ESSA, The National Center on Intensive Intervention, and Proven Tutoring.
